Tata Salt's 'DESH KO ARPAN' programme to support Nanhi Kali project

Pledges to provide educational support to underprivileged girl children for the 2nd consecutive year

Tata Salt, the pioneers and leaders in the branded iodised edible salt category, reiterated its commitment to support underprivileged children across the country with their 'Desh Ko Arpan' Programme (DKAP), which has entered its 5th year. As part of the ongoing social and community development initiatives of Tata Chemicals Limited (TCL), the programme contributes 10 paise for every kilo of Tata Salt sold across the country during the months of January (Republic day) and August (Independence day) to a worthy social cause. For the 2nd consecutive year, the programme will extend educational support to 1,500 underprivileged girl children, who are part of the Nanhi Kali project, which is jointly managed by K. C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) and Naandi Foundation.

Held this year between 15th August and 14th September 2007, the 'Desh Ko Arpan' programme reiterated Tata Salt's commitment to allow its millions of consumers to collectively contribute to the progress of the society and nation, at no extra cost. On behalf of TCL, Dr. Kiran Bedi (Director General of Police, Bureau of Police Research & Development, Ministry of Home Affairs) handed over a cheque of Rs. 27 lakh to the Nanhi Kali project.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. R. Mukundan, Executive Vice President - TCL, said, "DKAP Programme has helped us touch the lives of many children and make a difference to their lives. Together with our partners, we will ensure that the underprivileged girl child is provided with quality school education in an enabling environment, so that she can realise her full potential. The continued success and the impact that we have managed in these five years, is our biggest encouragement to continue this effort. The consistent support of our customers, predominantly the homemakers, in making the programme meet its objectives is heartening."
