Sustainability @ TCL

At Tata Chemicals, there is a conscious effort to ensure that sustainability remains at the core of our business strategy. Sustainability forms the very basis of our business growth aspirations, even as we pursue our commitment to corporate responsibility and create value for all stakeholders.
With sustainability being integral to our existence, we are strengthening our long-term resilience by undertaking pioneering initiatives that contribute to a thriving world, communities and enterprise. We have aligned our sustainability goals with Responsible Care, CORE and UN Sustainable Development Goals guidelines to ensure maximum impact. While our Sustainability efforts are focused on growing shared values, promoting a low-carbon economy and minimising environment footprint, our Sustainability priorities are in areas of carbon abatement, circular economy, biodiversity preservation, energy conservation, water management, emission management and waste management.
Enabled by corporate governance benchmarked to the highest standards, our business model integrates our core competencies and best practices with sustainable solutions to retain a competitive edge as well as ensure a better tomorrow. For us, Sustainability encompasses stakeholder engagement, corporate governance & ethical practices, responsible manufacturing, safety & health of employees and the communities we serve, product stewardship and investing in our key communities while creating economic value.
We make constant and continuous efforts to understand and redefine the Sustainability aspects of various stages of our value chain across our business lines - from consumer products and industrial chemicals, to agri-solutions and nutraceuticals. More than a business imperative, Sustainability is the basic foundation of TCL’s business strategy. We analyse various environmental, social and governance issues impacting our businesses, as well as our stakeholders. These help us define strategic priorities, mitigate actions and better understand our effect on the environment and guide us towards responsible value creation.
We are sharply centered on climate change, conscious that climate change can have a direct and indirect impact across the value chain, right from operational efficiencies to logistics. Adapting sustainable solutions, we are shifting our focus from disaster recovery to climate resilience. In line with our commitment towards Sustainability, we are committed to transition to a low-carbon economy and have strengthened this journey through commitment to SBTi and setting of carbon reduction target aligned to well below 2 degrees. Our Carbon Capture Unit in the UK is nearing completion and is one of the notable examples of pathways to ensure we meet our sustainability targets.
Enabling individuals, empowering communities
Extending our sustainability initiatives to empower society, we actively engage with the communities in our regions of operation to create sustainable social and economic development. Our unified approach is underpinned by the Tata ethos and aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, making a positive impact in all areas ranging from nutrition and farm excellence, to gender equality and livelihoods.
Working with partner organisations, our initiatives for sustainable communities aim to build economic capital as well as ensures environmental integrity. While the efforts to build economic capital encompass farm-based livelihoods as well as non-farm based skill development programmes, we ensure environmental integrity through focused sustainable programmes and affirmative actions in the fields of education, health & safety, sanitation and conservation.
