Our planet

Our approach

Cutting carbon, not corners—50% reduction since 2000, and on track for Net Zero by 2035.

Net Zero bound

Our goal? To be Net Zero by 2035. We are already making great strides: since 2000 we have reduced the carbon intensity of our manufacturing by 50% but there’s always more to be done. When it comes to sustainable manufacturing, Tata Chemicals Europe is leading the way with tangible action.

The next step on our journey to building a low-carbon future? Looking at ways to use hydrogen as an alternative fuel.

  • Alternative fuel

Dedication to our carbon reduction journey means investing in renewable sources.

  • Carbon capture & utilisation

With the opening of the UK’s first industrial-scale carbon capture and utilisation plant in 2021, we now capture and use 40,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions – the equivalent of taking 20,000 cars off the road – each year.

  • Ecokarb®

We capture carbon dioxide to produce Ecokarb®, a net-zero emission sodium bicarbonate which is a critical raw material for the pharmaceutical industry. Exported to 80+ countries, it supports life-saving treatments like haemodialysis for kidney disease patients.

Invested in sustainability

Here at Tata Chemicals Europe, looking after the planet is everyone’s job. Sustainability runs deep within our culture, and it’s our ambition to remain at the forefront of decarbonisation in manufacturing. So, we continuously look for ways to reduce our impact and use the assets and land we own to help create a better environment.

Our journey to Net Zero

Our track record has been impressive, with our carbon footprint reduced by 55% already. But we aren't done yet. We are making significant strides on our journey to Net Zero by 2035.
