Safety practices
-
Focus on safety, process safety, risk management and sustainable operations.
-
Total recordable injury frequency rate of 0.98 (1.28 in FY 2022-23).
-
Taking strong actions on zero harm, conducting safety assessments and audits, digitalisation and data analytics.
-
Ensuring containment of safety hazards (behaviour, workplace, process and product).
-
Addresses safety risks that could lead to emergencies. Regular tabletop and field drills ensure preparedness for emergency situations.
-
Hazard identification through techniques like Job Safety Analysis, Hazard and Operability Study, Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis, What-if analysis and Failure Mode Effect Analysis.
Our technology practices
-
Green technology
Lithium carbonate for EVs and solar glass manufacturing.
-
Bio-based surfactant manufacturing technology
This process does not generate any solid waste or effluent.
-
Electric calciner technology
It reduces the carbon footprint of the product and also improves the whiteness index from 87 to 94.
-
Membrane filtration technology
For filtration of precipitated silica in pearl project.
-
Multi-fuel feeding technology
In HAG for pearl dryer project using bio briquette.
Our sustainability initiatives
-
Energy efficiency
We prioritise energy efficiency through co-generation facilities and renewable energy sources. We reduce our carbon footprint by supplementing coal with wind power and transporting over 90% of our products by rail.
-
Emission reduction
Tata Chemicals is dedicated to reducing emissions to combat climate change. We implement stringent measures, including MUW FBD and vacuum system modifications, and adhere to ISO 14001 standards to ensure a safer environment.
-
Water conservation
Water is a vital resource, and we continuously monitor and reduce usage across our operations. Our water footprint assessments and conservation initiatives help us minimise reliance on external sources.
-
Waste management
We focus on recycling and reusing materials to minimise waste. Hazardous and non-hazardous waste is responsibly segregated and disposed of, while organic waste is composted and effluent solids are repurposed in cement production.
-
Plastic waste management
Tata Chemicals actively addresses the plastic waste crisis through recycling programmes and collaboration with stakeholders. Our efforts encourage consumers to recycle and follow proper disposal guidelines, reducing environmental impact.
-
Climate action
Committed to low-carbon growth and green technologies, we invest in reducing carbon footprints and enhancing energy efficiency. Our leadership in carbon management is recognised by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), where we achieved a score of 99.
Impacting the lives of locals
-
-
Waste management
The plant utilised 5,000 MT of biomass mixed with fossil fuel in CFBC boilers. Plastic waste and spent oil were used as alternative energy sources in cement kilns.
-
Medical and healthcare
Tata Chemicals offers subsidised medical care at the company hospital for eligible retired employees.
-
Environment
Mithapur being an arid region, water is a scarce commodity. To become self-sufficient on water, we set up a make-up water plant where condensate is a product and is utilised in the plant's operations.
-
Enriching biodiversity
The number of bird species recorded under the biodiversity enrichment program has been on a steady rise, crossing the 150 mark.
