Regeneration of mangroves

Mangroves are an important component of the coastal ecosystem, and play a vital role in sustaining coastal communities. A healthy mangrove cover provides protection against coastal erosion and the impact of storm and tidal surges. As a part of a drive to strengthen coastal ecosystems, TCL has taken up a mangrove plantation project in the Okhamandal region. This project, initially carried out in partnership with MFF-IUCN, Grow Trees, aims at restoring the original mangrove cover, which will help improve coastal ecology, and provide the much-needed roosting and nesting sites for aquatic birds. More than 13 lakh of mangrove plantation has been done at different locations in Okhamandal, Gujarat and Sundarbans, West Bengal.
