Tata Chemicals' urea division achieves RC 14001 - 2005 certification

Tata Chemicals' urea business achieved the highly recognised Responsible Care (RC) 14001 - 2005 Certification recently. The achievement is commendable and remarkable for TCL, which received this certification after a comprehensive assessment by the overseas assessors for the RC 14001 – 2005.

This places TCL in the list of the American Chemical Council’s (ACC) best practices group on responsible care in addition to the Indian Chemical Council’s (ICC) accreditation for manufacturing and distribution operations in India. TCL’s urea business is only the second company in India to achieve this certification, which is one of the major achievements in TCL’s EHS&S management system.

Said Kapil Mehan, executive director, Tata Chemicals, “Safety and health of the workforce and communities and a clean environment are the basic necessities for sustainable existence of any business. This certification will give due recognition and boost to the efforts TCL puts in continuously improving EHS&S management system and will make us raise the bar going forward.”

The need for a structured process to implement and manage Responsible Care management principles resulted in the Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) technical standard and RC14001 -2005 technical specifications.

The International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) has established a framework for chemical manufacturing companies to adopt and implement global Responsible Care® core principles. National chemical industry associations are working with the ICCA to ensure the continuous improvement of EHS&S in their countries. ICC for India adopted this initiative in 1993.
