
Mumbai: The Employers' Federation of India (EFI) today launched the 'Naval Tata Institute for Training in Industrial Relations' at the EFI National HRM Summit 2014 and CIE 34th Employee Relations Conference held at Hotel ITC Grand Central, Mumbai. Focused on helping mid-level industry executives hone their professional skills through various skill-development programmes, the programme has been launched with the encouraging support of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
EFI has played a lead role in facilitating industrial relations amongst member organisations as well as in the industrial space. In order to formalise its efforts in this field, EFI decided to set up a separate training aim with uniquely designed activities in the field of labour law and industrial relations. The objective of this initiative is to bridge the skills gap that exists across the value chain, and to help build a stronger workforce.
The institute was jointly inaugurated by Mr R Mukundan, president, EFI, and managing director, Tata Chemicals; Dr Ajoy Kumar, CEO, Max Neeman International, New Delhi; Ms Tine Staermose, director, ILO, DWT, India and Mr Rajeev Dubey, immediate past president, EFI and president (group HR and aftermarket) and member of group executive board, Mahindra & Mahindra along with the release of training calendar of the institute. This was followed by curtain raiser for EFI awards for excellence in Employee Relations 2015.
Speaking at the event, Mr R Mukundan, managing director, TCL,and president, EFI, stated, "India is a young nation, where the growing human capital can result in the fruition of 'Unstoppable India'. Thus, it is extremely imperative for organisations to provide their employees with the requisite caring ecosystem, where each employee feels safe and supported. This will result in equitable contribution from their end, which will in turn increase employee and organisational productivity. In today's globalised world, it is a challenge to provide meaningful employment to the youth and upgrade their skills to meet the global requirements of quality and standards. The Naval Tata Institute will help in building this competitiveness through a win-win approach which is value based and policy driven."
In recognition of the incomparable contribution made to EFI by the late Mr Naval Tata, and his commitment to exemplary employee relations practices, it has been decided to name the training centre after him as the 'Naval Tata Institute for Training in Industrial Relations'. Mr Naval Tata was the president of EFI for a little over two decades.
A two day event, the summit which focuses on the central theme of "Creating a competitive and caring workforce ecosystem for Unstoppable India" kicked off with a welcome speech by Mr R Mukundan, president, EFI and managing director, TCL. The summit looks to answer the question of creation of employment and employability to meet the rising aspirations of youth, along with how to ensure increased productivity in manufacturing sector and excellence in services sector.
