Tata Chemicals organizes Emergency Preparedness Mock drill at Mithapur, Gujarat plant

Mithapur, 22nd August 2020: Tata Chemicals, a leading sustainable and science-led chemistry solutions company, has always strived to build the culture of ‘Safety First’. It has led the way in promoting safety measures in its operational areas and in the communities around the plants. In line with this core value, Tata Chemicals organized an Emergency Preparedness mock drill in association with Office of Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH), Government of Gujarat, Jamnagar at its Mithapur plant at Gujarat, which witnessed a participation of around 1000 employees.

The mock-drill was carried out in the presence of DISH officials, Mr. Devendra Prajapati, Asst. Director, Industrial Safety & Health, Mr. B S Patel, Asst. Director, Industrial Safety & Health and Mr. G A Makwana, Officer, Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) The event was coordinated by Mr. Devendra Thakur – Head Safety & Health, Mithapur.

The drill was triggered with a scenario of leakage in the supply line of ammonia storage at the plant. Once the drill commenced, it activated the on-site emergency plan and employees across departments Safety, Health & Environment, Soda Ash, Inbound Logistics, Supply Chain, HR & Admin, Services, Maintenance and Security responded as per the protocols. As part of the safety measures, the employees exited from their respective workplaces to the nearest assembly points acknowledging the wind direction. During this, each employee ensured that they adhered to the social distancing norms.

Mr. N Kamath-Vice President Manufacturing & Factory Manager, Tata Chemicals said, “Our Zero Harm policy is at the core of all our operations. By organising these mock drills as per the directives of the government, we aim to improve upon our own emergency preparedness creating safer environment for our employees and communities around. To ensure the safety of all its stakeholders, Tata Chemicals conducts these safety drills once every six months. We aim to foster our vision of a ‘safety first’ culture across all our plants.”

During the 28 minute drill, the government safety authorities examined the emergency preparedness and legal compliance of safety and health. During the de-briefing the government representatives appreciated the tenacity of Tata Chemicals in ensuring that the drill was executed as per protocols and the total commitment with which the employees responded.

Tata Chemicals strongly believes in ensuring safety and abides by all the safety guidelines stated by the state government and the authorities. The departments continue to follow protocols and respond to situations as defined.
