Twenty-year-old R Prabhakar Marathon Race witnesses another successful year at Tata Chemicals Mithapur

Mithapur: Following the practice of honouring their committed members, Tata Chemicals (TCL) organised the R Prabhakar Marathon Race, an annual sports cum wellness event. The event was held yesterday in memory of R Prabhakar. TCL has been religiously following the practice of conducting this event since the past 20 years.

This year the event had two kinds of races — Memorial half marathon race (21km) and fast walk (3km). The race attracts a lot of enthusiasts from across the region including those from the armed forces (INS Valsura, Navy Okha, Coast Guard Okha and Porbandar). The race was organised on August 7, 2011, wherein, close to 300 entries were received.

Cash prizes of Rs5,000, Rs3,000 and Rs2,500 were given to the first three winners and 10 other prizes were given out to celebrate the spirit of this initiative. Apart from this TCL extended all its support to the outstation participants by providing lodging and boarding too.

Speaking on the occasion, M Ravindrath, vice president, manufacturing, said, “R Prabhakar was a chemical engineer, who, after dedicating 25 years to TCL Mithapur, moved to Mumbai as a director of Tata Fertilizer. He was highly inclined towards sports and always appreciated such events. We are happy to continue this sporting legacy in line with the true spirit of Mithapur and its people.”

Rajbir Singh Saini, head, HR, added, “This is a very good occasion for people to come together and showcase their seriousness towards health and wellness. With the level of stress increasing day by day, participation in sports and community initiatives is a very good way of bonding and a step towards a healthy life. We are always on the lookout for such initiatives and are happy to see participation from all the stakeholders.”
