Tata Chemicals ranked in top ten Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index in Carbon Disclosure Project 2011 - India 200 Report

Mumbai: Tata Chemicals has been ranked in the list of the top ten companies recognised on Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) - India, in the Carbon Disclosure Project 2011 India 200 Report for the second year in succession. The report was released at the Shangri-La's Eros Hotel in New Delhi on November 15, 2011, by Gregory Barker, minister of state for climate change, UK Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Speaking on this recognition, Sanjay Choudhary, chief technology and sustainability officer, Tata Chemicals, said, "Tata Chemicals is engaged in developing good practices to respond to the challenges of energy, water and climate change. Inclusion in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index recognises our efforts to manage climate-conscious growth."

The carbon disclosure scores assess companies on the quality and completeness of their disclosure, and consider factors including:

  • Clear consideration of business-specific risks and potential opportunities related to climate change.
  • Good internal data management practices for understanding GHG emissions, including energy use.
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a global, investor-driven initiative which collects critical climate change data from the world's leading companies with the objective to inform the global market about investment risk and commercial opportunity and companies' climate change strategy. The information request in 2011 was sent to over 3,000 companies in over 60 countries on behalf of 551 institutional investors holding $71 trillion in assets under management. This is the fifth year of this initiative in India. Eight Indian financial institutions are part of the CDP global signatory investors seeking the information from industry on a voluntary basis. The CDP and its partners in India — CII and WWF — have engaged with the top 200 Indian companies (by market capitalisation) encompassing a diverse range of sectors.
