Tata Chemicals celebrates world environment day at Mithapur with a week-long series of programmes
Tata Chemicals Limited celebrated World Environment Day at Mithapur with a week-long series of programmes. Keeping in view the current year's theme of "climate change", essay and drawing competitions were organized for Mithapur and Adityana Mines, which attracted 13 entries in essay and 27 entries in the drawing competition. Similarly, 85 children in Surajkaradi, Shivrajpur, Varvala and Makanpur participated in the drawing competition.
A slogan competition attracted 53 entries. Since shortage of water remains a major concern for Mithapur and surrounding of Okhamandal area, a "Save water" suggestion competition was organized which attracted 23 entries.
As a unique initiative more than 300 employees of Tata Chemicals Ltd. participated in an "Environment Walk" around the chemical complex and collected plastics and other wastes.
A beach-cleaning program drew 150 employees, their family members and other citizens of Mithapur.
The avenue of coconut trees facing the sea is an unforgettable landmark of Mithapur. This avenue was extended by planting a row of coconut trees. The entire neighborhood participated in this activity.
A Paryavaran Katha was organized as a part of the concluding event of recognizing winners of the various competitions. (The Katha is a locally popular art form in which, the message is conveyed in verse). The message was Environment Improvement
The celebration concluded with prize distribution and speeches by Mr. Sanjiv Lal (VP - Manufacturing, Tata Chemicals Ltd.), Mr. I L Momin (Director, Udaan Academy), local NGOs, merchants and school children of Mithapur.
To encourage a plastic free Mithapur and save environment, the prizes consisted of Jute Bags and Compact Fluorescent Lamps. Potted plants were given to all participants to encourage tree plantations.
