Tata Chemicals celebrates World Environment Day at Haldia Plant with zest

Organises interactive activities to spread awareness about importance of environment

Haldia: In continuation to its 75th year celebration and in line with its commitment to sustainable growth, sustenance, protection and conservation of the environment, Tata Chemicals (TCL) celebrated World Environment Day at its Haldia manufacturing unit on June 5, 2014 by organising a series of interactive and educational programmes for its employees, community and children in order to commemorate World Environment Day and raise awareness about environmental issues and promote action for the protection of environment.

Abiding by this year’s World Environment Day, ‘Raise your Voice, Not the Sea Level’ for World Environment Day, the company organised engaging interactive activities such as safety and environment quiz and drawing competition to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote action for environment protection. A special photography competition was conducted among the employees to encourage them to actually differentiate between best and worst environmental conditions. A tree plantation drive and an awareness program were organised to educate the people about the importance of conserving environment.

Speaking at the event, Sabaleel Nandy, vice president, manufacturing, TCL, stated “Tata Chemicals is committed to environment conservation and has always upheld its credo not just by being involved in various conservation projects in and around its sites but has always encouraged its employees in taking this commitment forward. We are very encouraged by the motivation and the enthusiasm shown by the people of Haldia in supporting the environment conservation issue. We aim to make Haldia a more environment friendly location and encourage everyone to take simple actions in their daily lives to reduce their carbon footprint and help preserve environment.”

The celebration concluded with a prize and sweet distribution ceremony and a speech by Mr Nandy, and other senior leaders in the presence of employees, local residents and school children of Haldia.
