The river Weaver, which runs alongside Tata Chemicals Europe 's Winnington plant, has played an integral role in the history of Brunner Mond, ICI, and now Tata Chemicals Europe. Water from the river has been used to produce soda ash and sodium bicarbonate from the 19th century right through to the present day. Historically, barges were used on the river to transport raw materials into the plant and for delivering finished products to customers.

The Weaver festival was a great day with activities including a major boat rally with more than 100 narrow-boats and heritage boats, arts, entertainments and various water sports activities. A number of Tata Chemicals Europe 's employees attended the festival and enjoyed spending the day explaining the business to members of the local community.
