Tata Chemicals Europe's employees raise funds for St Luke's Hospice

Staff at Tata Chemicals Europe's head office Natrium House have found a novel way of raising money for St Luke's Hospice, which has generated over £2,000 for the Cheshire charity in just one year.

"From our head office on Winnington Lane, we don't have any easily reachable shops, so we decided to open our own tuck shop," explained Tata Chemicals Europe's head of human resources (and tuck shop manager), Karen Lounds.

"By adding a small margin onto chocolate and crisps, we've managed to raise quite a lot of money in a very short space of time, thanks to the obvious sweet teeth of our colleagues."

The tuck shop has proved to be a hit with employees, with regular visits not only from 90 head office staff, but also from visiting colleagues based at Tata Chemical Europe's soda ash, sodium bicarbonate and salt factories in Winnington, Lostock and Middlewich.

"St Luke's is a fantastic organisation that was chosen by employees as the charity they wanted the company to support. It's touched so many people's lives that it was the obvious choice and Tata Chemicals Europe is delighted to support it," added Karen.

The tuck shop is just one way that the company wants to raise funds for the charity, explained Karen. "In the last few days, over a dozen colleagues have signed up to climb the tallest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales next year in a sponsored Three Peaks Challenge and next month, a team of colleagues are giving up their Sunday morning lie in to run a car boot sale, to which everyone is welcome."

"We're very pleased to have the support of Tata and its employees," said St Luke's Community and Corporate Fundraiser, Rhys Edwards. "We're delighted to hear about the success of the tuck shop, and we look forward to supporting its further fundraising efforts, starting with the car boot sale on Sunday, 2 November."

• The St Luke's Car Boot Sale in aid of St Luke's Hospice takes place on 2nd November at Tata Chemicals Europe on Winnington Lane. To reserve your pitch, please call 01606 724000.
