Tata Chemicals observes World Environment Day

Let’s come together to reduce air pollution!

World Environment Day is celebrated across the world on 5th June every year. The day is a reminder of the various human actions that are resulting in depletion of environment and the importance of taking proactive actions to preserve the environment and bio-diversity.

The theme for World Environment Day 2019 is Air Pollution and it is indeed a pressing concern for humanity. Air pollution is primarily linked to five main human sources -- industry, transport, agriculture, households and waste. These sources spew out a range of substances such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxide, ground-level ozone, particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, hydrocarbons, and lead - all of which are harmful to human health.

The 2019 theme invites us all to consider how we can change that scenario to reduce the amount of air pollution, and prevent its contribution to global warming and its effects on our own health.

Industry needs to work to reduce emissions and promote renewable energy in manufacturing operations. At an individual level, people can avoid use of vehicles for short distance travel and promote the use of pool cars whenever possible, avoid wastage of food, practice separation of household wastes, and so on.

On this day, Tata Chemicals calls on everyone to pledge that we will adopt individual and industrial practices that are sustainable and do not negatively impact our precious environment.
