Tata Chemicals ‘Shri K S Somashekharan Nair Memorial Open Okhamandal Cyclothon’ sees huge turnout

Mithapur, 20th November 2022: Tata Chemicals Limited organized the 21st  edition of Shri K S Somashekharan Nair Memorial Open Okhamandal Cyclothon for the residents of Okhamandal and Tata Chemicals employees. This event was held in memory of the late K S Somashekharan Nair, a former employee at Tata Chemicals, Mithapur. Shri K S Somashekharan Nair who was fondly known as Soman Nair served as an estate and security officer at the Mithapur plant of Tata Chemicals from 1984 to 1987. The Cyclothon was flagged off by Mr N Kamath.

A total of 150 people participated in the 42.2km Cyclothon for which the start and end point was the Mithapur Cricket Ground. Mr Vishal Herbha was declared the winner of the event, Mr Bhavesh D Sumaniya was the first runner up and Mr Dharmendra Ghedia was named the second runner-up.

Talking about the Cyclothon, Mr N. Kamath, VP- Manufacturing, Tata Chemicals Ltd., Mithapur said, “For over years, we have been organizing this event as a tribute to our former employee Shri K S Somashekharan Nair. He was revered by Tata Chemicals employees and locals alike. Participation of employees and locals in this Cyclothon in large numbers is a testimony of his influence. I am thankful to everyone who made this event a huge success.” 

The winner of the Cyclothon Mr Vishal Herbha said, “It is a privilege to participate in and win the Shri K S Somashekharan Nair Memorial Open Okhamandal Cyclothon. Seeing so many people from different segments of society come together to celebrate or observe any occasion builds a strong bond and unity within the community. Also, Cycling is also a great way to achieve fitness and I thank Tata Chemicals for organizing this event every year.”
