Tata Chemicals celebrates World Environment Day with enthusiasm
June 05, 2014

Launched Tree Plantation drive

Babrala: In continuation to its 75th year celebration and in line with its commitment to sustainable growth, sustenance, protection and conservation of the environment, Tata Chemicals (TCL) celebrated World Environment Day at its Babrala manufacturing unit on June 5, 2014 by organising a series of interesting and educational programmes for its employees, township and the surrounding community in order to commemorate World Environment Day and create awareness about the urgent need to protect our planet.

Abiding by this year’s World Environment Day theme, ‘Raise your Voice, Not the Sea Level’ for World Environment Day, the engaging activities included slogan-making competition, collage- and poster-making competition, lectures and quizzes with the central theme of ‘Climate Change’. The company also organised a nature walk, ecological awareness programme and launched a tree plantation drive in order to mark its continuous efforts towards conservation of nature and ecological growth. The creative ‘Shoot the Nature’ competition on the best photos on nature, wildlife and biodiversity witnessed a number of enthusiastic participants.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr S Bhasker Kumar, vice president, manufacturing, TCL stated, “The idea is not to preach environmental awareness, but to inspire and encourage the community at large. We believe that these initiatives that not only involve our employees but also their families and surrounding communities, will go a long way in building commitment towards nature. TCL is committed to the conservation of environment, creating awareness towards sustainable growth and preserving the densely forested area of Babrala.”

Environment is a key issue in Babrala, which is an ISO-14001 certified unit. The emphasis is on waste reduction, proper garbage disposal and conservation of natural resources. Environmental awareness drives are held regularly and township has a ‘no plastics’ policy.

TCL is committed to responsible care for the environment from which it draws resource for its Living, Industry, and Farm Essentials (LIFE) product portfolio. Since the past decade, the company has initiated various programmes on environment protection, sustenance and eco-conscious growth and aims to serve society through science. As a member of the Tata group, TCL aims to abate climate change with a sense of shared responsibility and has started tracking its carbon footprint in order to reduce carbon emissions. The company is committed to Responsible Care as a value to the Save Planet for its future and the future of generations to come, as it’s all about LIFE.

An initiative of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), World Environment Day is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action.
