Babrala: Energy, exuberance and excitement marked the Oorja 2009-10 Mega Finals held here on March 26, 2010. Eight teams from the various Tata Chemicals locations came together to combat the harmful effects of climate change in the 'Clash of Titans'. The coveted Oorjakshetra trophy was bagged by team Nanded from the Mumbai region, thus making Mumbai the Oorjakshetra for the coming year.

Dr JJ Irani, director, Tata Sons was the guest of honour at the event. R Mukundan, managing director, Tata Chemicals; Kapil Mehan, executive director, Tata Chemicals; and SG Choudhary, chief technology and sustainability officer, Tata Chemicals, were present along with the leadership team of Babrala to encourage the participants. Oorja 2009-10 was a crucial milestone in TCL’s endeavor towards undoing climate change, as it helped to revolutionise the TCL family's perception of, and attitude towards, this phenomenon.

The first performance of the evening was an entertaining play called Rahey Ye Jungle Hara Bhara by the Babrala kids, which creatively combined song, dance and theatre. The competition was tough and the energy, contagious. Each team did their best to deliver lively performances, which showcased their innovative solutions to help counter climate change. The plays were interspersed with breathtaking song-and-dance routines by the children, who put their best foot forward to regale the audience.

The award for the Best Organising Team went to the Mithapur Oorja Champions for their excellent coordination in conducting the pre-event promotions and competitions for the regional prelims. The team brought together a record-breaking total of 30 teams during the prelims.

The Best Actor Male, Best Actor Female and Best Actor Child awards were bagged by Mayur Karia and Malvika Tewari from Team Aandhi, Mithapur, and Shyam Makwana from Team Bhavai, Mithapur Kids Team respectively. A special jury award for Best Actor was given to Prasun Mazumdar from Team Jhamela Baba, Kolkata. Last, but not the least, the Champions Team, Babrala were perfect hosts to all the teams and made the evening memorable for all.

All in all, Oorja 2009-10 'Climate Change Undone' was full of fun and frolic, excitement and passion, while also marking a revolutionary beginning in creating awareness about climate change, and the role that we, as individuals, play in preventing it.
