Taking manufacturing beyond world class
September 2003

Mr. Alok Tyagi, Head of Strategy and Business Development, Tata Chemicals, addressed the Goa Management Association (GMA) at its 28th Annual General Meeting in Panaji, Goa on September 20

Mr. Tyagi, delivering the keynote address, said, "Success of a company is its low-end outcomes, helping it to go from world class to beyond world class. Those who plan early, aiming success with committment can reach beyond world class."

"The heart of 'beyond world class' lies also in relationships and finally it's the question of character setting that is important," he added.

"Instead of making assumptions, which are not always true, we should bother to ask the customers what actually they want. What is important is how you ensure customer success in the market as beyond world class companies have always been aligned with the customers," stated Mr. Tyagi.

During his presentation to the GMA, he also added that focus on continuous improvement and commitment to excellence were some of the key elements to raise the level of manufacturing in India.

Mr. Srinivas Dempo, president of the GMA, also addressed the gathering. Hailing the revival of the Association's activities, Mr. Dempo said that he believed a change in management and logistics would definitely help the manufacturing sector and knowing the framework of manufacturing would aid the members of the GMA gain a better grip on the sector.
