Properties and storage: Hydrochloric acid (sometimes called muriatic acid) is a concentrated solution of hydrogen chloride gas in water. When exposed to air, it fumes freely. These fumes are irritating to the skin.

The commercial product may have a light yellow colour due to the presence of iron, free chlorine and organic matter. As hydrochloric acid attacks most metals and a number of alloys, it has to be stored either in glass, polythene carboys or in rubber-lined or PVC-lined tanks.

Uses: Hydrochloric acid is used in the production of chlorides for picking of iron during its pre-treatment in the galvanising and tinning processes. It can also be used in the manufacture or organic hydrochloric acid and in de-scaling boilers and other evaporating equipment.

Packing: HM / HDPE carboys; five-tonne (approximately) truck tanker.
