Pozzolana
Portland Cement derives its name from the volcanic
ashes of the Pozzuoli volcano in Italy. These
ashes are used in the manufacture of a kind of
mortar which hardens under water.
Pozzolana
Portland Cement is one of several types of cement
which are used for special purposes. Pozzolanas
are materials which, although they do not have
cementing properties in themselves, will combine
chemically with Portland cement in the presence
of water to form strong cementing material.
Pozzolana materials include power-station fly
ash, burnt clays, ash from burnt plant material
and silicious earths. Tata Chemicals' power station
produces waste fly ash, a raw material in the
manufacture of Pozzolana cement.
The
brand name for TCL's Pozzolana Portland Cement
is Shudh Cement, an offering that has been going
from strength to strength since its marketing
structure was revamped and the product was re-launched
in Gujarat in December 2001.
Since
its re-launch, Shudh has made quick inroads in
the Gujarat market to capture a 5-per cent market
share, despite tough competition from well-entrenched
players. Shudh was previously marketed through
ACC under the TCL-ACC brand name, but, following
the re-launch, TCL has taken control of the marketing
of the brand.
The
markets addressed by Shudh Cement are segmented
as follows:
|
|
Primary markets (Saurashtra, Kutch) |
|
|
Secondary
markets (north Gujarat through central Gujarat) |
|
|
Tertiary
markets (south Gujarat) |
