Tata
Chemicals Limited manufactures Ordinary Portland
Cement (OPC) at its state-of-the-art manufacturing
plant located at Mithapur. The cement manufacturing
process involves burning of limestone and other
siliceous material at a very high temperature
of 1400 degrees C and then grinding the resulting
clinker with gypsum. The end product thus obtained
is called Ordinary Portland Cement.
Tata
Chemicals manufactures Ordinary Portland Cement
in two grades:
1. Ordinary Portland Cement Grade-53
2. Ordinary
Portland Cement Grade-43
Grade-53
is a very superior quality of cement (conforming
to IS:12269:1987) used for critical and heavy
structures like bridges, multistorey buildings,
foundations and heavy and load bearing structures
requiring typical and critical construction requirements.
Quality
standards:
OPC - Grade-53 is manufactured by grinding
a superior quality of clinker at a fineness of
more than 3200 cm2/gm. The cement has
an initial setting time of around 110 minutes
and final setting time of 190 minutes. It gives
a compressive strength of more than 580 kg/ cm2
after 28 days of curing (as per BIS standards
for the testing of compressive strength).
Best
results:
Since Tata Chemicals Limited's OPC-Grade-53
cement is a superior quality high strength cement,
it should be used wherever specified and under
the advice and supervision of a structural engineer
/ expert technician to obtain optimum results.
It is very important to pay attention to the required
cement content, workability and right water-cement
ratio, proper placement and compaction with adequate
curing for the required time period to obtain
the best results.
