Panaji:
A commitment to excellence and a focus on continuous
improvement are some of the key qualities for
taking manufacturing beyond world class, according
to Alok Tyagi, Head of Strategy and Business Development
of Tata Chemicals.
Delivering
the keynote address as the chief guest at the
28th annual general body meeting of Goa Management
Association, he said that there are many Indian
success stories at the international level.
He
said India is turning out to be successful in
the core sector but taking manufacturing beyond
world class could also encompass shipping, banking
and a whole gamut of other sectors.
Tyagi
who has had important stints with prominent companies
said setting the course for beyond world
class may be difficult but transition later
would be easier, if it was focussed on leadership,
early planning and succession in the hierarchy.
GMA
chairman Srinivas Dempo in his speech hailed the
Associations revival of activities after
a difficult phase.
He
said amidst globalisation and the onslaught of
foreign investment, there were some Indian companies
which were doing well and buying up other concerns
abroad.
Earlier,
Lt. Col. (retd.) Silvester DSouza, chairman
of the executive panel welcomed the gathering.
Vice
