'India turning out to be international hub for manufacturing sector'

Panaji: India is turning out to be an international hub for the manufacturing sector with the concept of ‘beyond world class’ gripping the corporate world, stated Mr Alok Tyagi of Tata Chemicals Ltd while delivering the keynote address on ‘Taking manufacturing beyond world class.’

He further said that the concept of ‘beyond world class’ need not be restricted only to the manufacturing sector as every single activity, be it in banking and other sectors, can go beyond world class. “Success of a company is its low-end outcomes, helping it to go from world class to beyond world class,” he added.

Mr Tyagi informed that the concept does emphasise on highest set of ideas that one pursues through hard work. He said it is in fact a journey, a resolution of any company aiming for beyond world class.

Mr Tyagi was speaking as a the chief guest at the 28th annual general meeting of Goa Management Association (GMA). “Those who plan early, aiming success with commitment can reach beyond world class,” he added.

“The heart of ‘beyond world class’ lies also in relationship and finally its the question of character setting that is important,” Mr Tyagi informed.

He disclosed that “the moving force of the concept ‘beyond world class’ is moving from contract towards governance and turning what is permissible into possible.”

“When we think to know where the customers ought to go, we shouldn’t forget that we too are customers as well as suppliers,” Mr Tyagi pointed out.

“Instead of making assumptions which are not always true, we should bother to ask the customers what actually they want. What is important is how you ensure customer success in the market as beyond world class companies have always been aligned with the customers,” he added.

Mr Tyagi during his presentation he also focussed on supply factor and said that merely looking at supply chain strategy is not sufficient. Instead, he said that the most significant reality is the choice of customers and not mere supply.

Earlier, the president of Goa Management Association, Mr Srinivas Dempo, in his address, said it looked that GMA was losing its role in the corporate world, but its committee members came together and revived it over the past few years. “After liberation, we were thrown open to various challenges. Today, various Indian companies are global players. What we actually need is creating the right mind,” he added.

Mr Dempo said that the entire change in logistics and management would help the manufacturing sector and knowing the frame-work of manufacturing would help the members of GMA.

He further said that it was encouraging to note that many youngsters were coming forward and taking keen interest in the programmes conducted by the GMA.
