Kapil Mehan is Executive Vice
President, Plant Nutrition and Agri Business for
the fertilisers business of Tata Chemicals (TCL).
A member of the senior leadership team of the
company, he holds a postgraduate diploma in management
from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad,
India, (IIM-A), 1981, after graduating in veterinary
sciences from Punjab Agricultural University,
Ludhiana. Before joining Tata Chemicals, he worked
with agricultural inputs company Rallis India
for 15 years, holding various positions in sales
and marketing at a number of locations.
He launched the one-stop Tata
Kisan Sansar network in northern and eastern India,
and was involved in the acquisition of the Rs
1,100-crore Hind Lever Chemicals, leading the
integration team. Mr Mehan is a key board member
of TCL's upcoming joint venture with 'Total Produce',
Ireland, Khet-Se Agri Produce India Pvt Ltd, for
purchase and distribution of fruits and vegetables
through Tata Kisan Sansar outlets, and is the
company's nominee on the board of IMACID (JV for
phosphoric acid in Morocco).
He has been with Tata
Chemicals for 10 years, during which he has managed
sales and marketing functions at the corporate
level, been head of sales and marketing in various
segments like industrial chemicals, cement, and
FMCG products (Tata Salt), and has extensively
travelled in India and abroad. Mr Mehan is a member
of the CII agri-business council and chairman
of the marketing advisory committee of FAIU. He
represents the fertilisers industry in various
government policy-making groups.
